Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

i can not quite put my finger on when i became obsessed with make up but i remember watching dulce candys videos and in one tutorial she pulled out the then brand new urban decay naked palette and something about it just made me want it so bad. i kept on watching tutorials with it and started reading reviews and i knew, i needed it in my life and a few months later in new york i bought my first high end make up piece in sephora and i am hooked ever since. now, i few years later, i am blogging and doing youtube and i am still an urban decay girl at heart. i own every naked palette which sounds quite sad. urban decay recently launched their newest addition to the naked palette family and it is the urban decay naked smoky and off course, i wanted it and picked it up in debenhams in exeter a few days ago. i’m a proud mother.

this palette is meant to be the perfect one for creating a smokey eye which is not my usual day look but for nights out, i do enjoy them. it comes with 12 different shades. some of them are limited edition and only available in the palette which i don’t care too much about as i prefer palettes to single shadows. it also comes with a brush with a blending brush on one end and a smudging brush on the other. i always got one quite well with the brushes in the naked palettes, i think they are great quality.
the packaging is a hard cover case with a smokey marble look and it feels really heavy and sturdy, a huge plus on my side and it has magnetic closing. quite a nice improvement on the urban decay packaging front and i have to say its one of my favorite packagings urban decay has done but i’m a girly girl…the naked 3 is still the winner for me.
the shades are in groups of 4, glitters, shimmers and mattes.

lets start off with the glittery shades (top to bottom): High, Dirtysweet, Radar and Amor. They look super shimmery and glittery but none of them is actually chunky or harsh and the color pay off and pigmentation is beautiful. they feel buttery and smooth and really easy to work onto the lid without feeling heavy or harsh. probably the best glitter shadows i used.
High is a rose tinted nude, perfect to highlight and even beautiful on its own or with a nude shade in the crease.
Dirtysweet is a very warm and light gold. i adore gold eyeshadows and think they add the perfect touch to a brown and bronzey smokey eye.
Radar is a really rich and bornzey chocolate brown. really warm with beautiful glitter to it. its absolutely lovely.
Amor is more of a classic smokey eye shade. its a glittery taupey grey which has a slight purple shimmer to it and a shade i don’t have at all in my collection. its beautiful.

now onto the shimmers. they are lovely, i ist love shimmery urban decay eyeshadows. perfectly pigmented and just buttery and super easy to work with. i just ave to say that urban decay eyeshadows are one of my favorites and these ones are too. from top to bottom: slanted, dagger, black market and smolder. really classy smokey eye shades. all of them are cool toned greys, purples and even blacks.
Slanted is a true silver that is almost glittery and pays off so nicely. it really is a perfect silver shade which looks beautiful and is perfect for a classy smokey eye.
Dagger is a deep and really cool dark silver/grey. it has a slight blue undertone and only has a slight shimmer to it and quite an unusual shade for me to use but i am excited to work with it.
Black market is as the name says, a black but it has a really soft and almost not visible cool shimmer to it which makes it a bit lighter than a matte black and perfect to darken up the smokey eye.
Smolder is a cool toned deep purple. again not something i’d usually go for but i think i have to give it a go.

now onto the mattes. i love matte eyeshadows but they are easily chalky and not easy to blend. however, all of them are lovely pigmented and so buttery and soft. something that still surprises me. also i think a good matte shade is the key to a good palette and in this case a good smokey eye. shades from top to bottom: password, whiskey, combust and thirteen.
Password is a purple toned matte grey, perfect to go with all the other greys and silvers in the palette and again, quite an unusual shade for me but one i’m so excited to work with.
Whiskey is a beautiful mid toned brown. perfect for the crease for a bronzey smokey eye and one of my favorites to create a day time look with this palette.
Comburst is a really nice nudey pink. its quite a skin tone shade for me and quite gut to blend out edges or even to do a soft highlight with.
Thirteen is a warm toned neutral shade. perfect for a highlight when you have fair skin like me. something that is a must in a palette for me.

all in all, i’m quite impressed with this palette, the quality of the shadows is perfect and the colors are just made for a smokey eye. have you tried this palette?
